 Winning with
Other Breeds

Some people might question a history as long as I state mine is, so I thought it would be fun to share some of my history as well as keeping up with the dogs I am handling for others today.

The Basset Hound materials have been kept from when I was in high school. This was before desktop publishing and, yes, it looks pretty amateurish but I did not come from a "dog" family. I was making this up as I went along. Most of the pieces came from, "The Bugler," a national Basset Hound magazine. I started writing, "The Haw," as a column for the magazine when I was a freshman in high school.

These pages are approximately from 1968-1972 although I started showing Bassets when I was 11 yrs. old and by my high school years had homebred champions being campaigned on both coasts. I was so lucky to have had a great start in the Valle Del Sol Basset Hound Club, serving as secretary for two years during high school and then, at age 16, I was voted president. I served for two years during which we started our annual specialty show.

Below the Basset pieces you will see more up to date wins with other breeds. I have trained, groomed, and handled : Collies, Bulldogs, Afghans, Bloodhounds, Havanese, Old English Sheepdogs, and Pembroke Welsh Corgis over the years. I don't have all the records but you will see a sampling here on this page.

I hope you enjoy seeing the history of my dog experience!

Two future stars, a win photo for Best in Specialty for my Ch. Supai's Pete's My Homely Hope, an ad featuing "Pete's" headstudy by Joan Ludwig, and a poem for, "The Bugler." Ch. Homelyope's Honeybun, a "Pete" daughter, is pictured above as a 4-month old puppy.

This piece shows "Pete" taking a mjor under judge Larry Downing at the San Gabriel K.C. show in 1970. Beside that, I am handling Ch. D'Artagnan Brutusina to BOS at the Southern California Basset Hound Specialty. Her owners were Paul and Suzanne Mohr of Supai Kennels. Also, we see Ch. "Pete" taking BB under judge Vincent Perry at the Imperial Valley K.C. show (he went on to Group 4), and last, an ad for "Pete's" stud services. The two girls in the center were Ch. Supai's Aunt Jemima, dam of my foundation bitch, Supai's Carbon Copy (ptd) and Supai's Cheerleader, who was "Pete's dam.

Here we see Ch. Homelyope's Darlin' Delilah as a 6-month old "future star". We also see Ch. Homelyope's Copper Carnival in her finishing photo. Copper was owned by Beaujangle Bassets. Both girls were daughters of Ch. "Pete." We see, "A Boy Named Lou" , a "Ch. Pete" son on the bottom right. This promising puppy was not shown widely because his owner's preferred to have him as a pet. He is shown with me as he wins RWD to a major on his first time out at 6-mo of age.  Also shown is a sample of, "The Haw."

Here is an ad that showcased Ch. Supai's Pete's My Homely Hope, winning his second Best in Specialty at the Valle del Sol Basset Hound Club, under Joe Kulper. The ad also publicizes a litter from Honeybun, before she finished, and Homelyope's Lysi Machus (ptd). Both dogs were co-owned with owners in Washington State.
