The result of more than 40 years of breeding and showing experience!
(updated 5/4/2012)

"At the tender age of 5 years, Sue Sammarco (owner of Desert Dawg Beagles) started training dogs by organizing the neighborhood dogs into a circus troupe every day at 9 a.m. By the age of 9 years, she had read every dog book in her local library and was invited to begin to explore the adult shelves of fiction and non-fiction books. When she was 11 years, she started showing the family's new Basset Hound and the rest is now history. A lifelong love that has involved competitive handling of many different breeds of dogs and is culminating with the breeding and showing of Beagles!"

(To learn more about my start in Basset Hounds and see other breeds I am handling,
check out "Recent Wins-In the Ring with Other Breeds")

One of the truths you learn over the years is that to breed a good dog, you have to start with the best stock you can buy. After watching the Beagle ring for a number of years while I showed Newfoundlands, the breeder I came to admire for consistency, temperament, and ring presence was Julie Wright and her Just-Wright Beagles. When I was ready to scale down and show a smaller breed, I contacted Julie who sold me a young male, Just-Wright The Natural, who finished his championship as an owner/handled dog. Later, she sold me Just-Wright Hot Tamale, who also finished her championship as an owner/handled bitch. These two lovely dogs were the foundation for my breeding stock. When bred, they too produced champions, and I knew that my decision to purchase the two dogs was sound.

Showing Beagles is great fun because so many breeders and owners are also the handlers of their dogs in the show ring. Like their beloved hounds, Beaglers enjoy supporting one another and cheering for a friend's hound. Beagles are easy to maintain, easy to prepare for the show ring, and more fun than a barrel of laughs in multiples. They are a pack breed. If you want a Beagle, just one, you are his pack! They are not a breed that you can throw outside and expect them to be happy.

We love helping people find just the right Beagle for their family. Even if you don't want to show Beagles, we still want to talk to you because we might have a Beagle that is just right for you! Not all of our Beagles are show dogs and sometimes, we have dogs that have completed their careers and need a wonderful, loving forever home!

We raise 13" and 15" Beagles in a variety of colors. Our Dawgs come in black, tan, and white but we also have red & whites, and occassionally blue, tan, and white. All of our puppies have at least one shot and one worming before they go to new homes at 9-10 weeks of age. All litters have been registered with the AKC and all puppies have AKC registration papers and pedigrees as well as a booklet of information for the care of your new dog.

We strongly encourage crate training for ALL Beagles. A family who uses crates for their Beagles will be a family who loves their Beagles!
